A HUGE Wake Up Call!

Did you know that texting while driving is equal to driving drunk? This was a shocking new piece of information I heard on part of the Oprah show I saw while working out this week.
I realize many teens don’t watch Oprah, but I would encourage you to take one minute and check out her new NO PHONE ZONE pledge and help save lives! 6000 people die every year because of distracted drivers, and nearly 500,000 people are injured!!! This was a BIG Wake Up call to me. Oprah shared heart wrenching stories of people who lost loved ones because of texting or talking on cellphones. One little girl, about the same age as my son, was killed about 15 pedals from her home as she was riding her bike. These accidents are preventable if we would put our cell phones down!
A recent survey found 71 percent of drivers 18 to 49 admitted to text or talk on the phone when they were driving. I know I had been part of that group. Please take a minute and check out the story about distracted driving and help save a life by signing the pledge!!!

10 Fun Things to Do Over Winter Break

If you’re not headed out on a vacation for winter break, you might think of trying these fun ideas with your friends!
1. Have a DIY Party with Your Friends: Grab paint pens, tshirts, boxers, pillowcases, sweatshirts, or your favorite clothing and design your own fun tees!
2. Create Your Own Winter Wonderland. Make hot cocoa or bake your favorite cookies and then watch your favorite movies together!
3. Practice Random Acts of Kindness. Think about how you can surprise someone with an act of kindness. Maybe you buy the next person in line their lunch or you shovel your neighbors driveway. Get creative and let us know what you do!
4. Support our charity of the month, go to http://www.letssaythanks.com and send a FREE card to our troops!
5. Create a Photo Collage. Take fun pics of you and your friends and create your own collage or memory book.
6. Pretend Your a Tourist in Your Hometown. Is there a place you’ve always wanted to check out and haven’t visited yet?
7. Give Yourself a Few Big Dreams! Take 30 minutes to write or think about your biggest dreams. Is there something you’ve always wanted to do, but keep making excuses for? Pick one thing on your list and sign up to do it in 2010!
8. Create Your Own Spa! Whether you’re alone or you have a few friends join you, do your nails, give yourself a pedicure, and maybe try a mud mask on your face! If you think you don’t have the supplies at home, look at our DIY tips on how easy!
9. Movie Marathon with a Twist! Create your own movie marathon with your friends (and don’t forget the popcorn)! Either pick a theme for the night and have everyone bring a movie that goes with that theme, or ask each friend to bring their all time favorite movie and then at the end of the night vote on the group’s favorite!
10. Pick One Day to Recharge and Relax! If you’re break is feeling really crazy and busy from travel, visiting others, work, or other things, try to find one day that is just for you where you can relax, sleep, or do anything else that makes you smile!

How We Took Tori’s Room from Drab to Fab

Saturday at the World’s Largest Slumber Party we announced the winner of our of the room makeover you voted on, Tori!!! Now, you can win a look a like room! Make sure you enter here to win before December 14!
Here’s how we completed the makeover! Here’s a quick video of what Tori’s room liked before. Now, follow along to see how we took it from Drab to Fab!
- First, we emptied out her room and Tori worked on reorganizing, sorting, decluttering, throwing stuff that didn’t matter to her anymore.
- Next we began prepping the room for a fresh coat of paint. This meant taking down the wallpaper border, cleaning the walls, taking off the outlet cover, and taping. We want to thank Steve with SR Stock Properties for helping us with this project! Tori’s friend helped us too! If you have a room that needs to have wallpaper taken down, ask someone at a home improvement store for the right supplies. We used a circular device and spray to help us before we started scraping.
- Next…was the paint. Tori’s parents wanted to keep the walls neutral and have one accent wall (see the green). Thank you Girls With Dreams for the paint!
- We wanted to give Tori’s room an extra boost so we had help from GrimeStoppers with the carpets. A huge thank you to GrimeStoppers who cleaned Tori’s carpets. They look awesome!
- Next, it was time to have Kim, from Artistic Sensations.com step in with her magic touch! We updated Tori’s room with a new bed cover, art work, green shag rug, a chocolate Fat Boy chair, and a wall sticky.
- With the clutter gone, we were able to re-use pieces of Tori’s old collection. We replaced her old light and also moved her furniture back into her room! Beautiful!!!!
