Fashion Tips for School
October 20, 2009
We were having a discussion at Girls With Dreams about what to wear to school. Do you think girls should just be comfortable and wear jeans or do you like to get dressed up? Why do you think some girls wear low-cut shirts and short skirts? Check out our discussion on Girls With Dreams TV or read Stevie’s advice on ‘Being a Scrub’.

Pandora Radio
October 16, 2009
I know not all of us have itunes or can afford to have every song you want on itunes. Going to youtube and searching every song you want to hear can get boring. Every heard of Pandora?
Go to www.pandora.com or click here. All you have to do is type in a song you like and it will play songs that are like that song. It’s free, all you have to do is sign up and they don’t send you junk emails. You can even have different stations so if one day you want country then the next you want hip hop, that’s fine! It even keep track of the stations you have listened to and saves them for the next time you log in.
Kanye vs Taylor
October 15, 2009
Many of us saw the shocking dispute at MTV Video Music Awards about a month ago. Now I can turn on the t.v. without seeing replays on the news. I’ve been reflecting how awkward that moment must have been for Taylor Swift. She had worked so hard: Top New Female Vocalist of the Year, Female Video Artist, and Breakout Artist for the Teen Choice Awards all in 08. She’s toured states, performed on shows, and won numerous awards. Her Fearless album debuted platinum!
Taylor Swift is an excellent example of what a true woman should be like. At the end of the day, all your hard work will matter to those who care. The way to become successful is to ignore the negativity and keep moving towards your goal. Swift was flawless in her performance after receiving her award. Be confident in who you are, and act to your fullest potential.

Stevie Recommends Having a Girls Night
October 14, 2009
Take a Friday once a month or so and have a girls night with you and your closes friends. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy but just spend the night catching up on things and sharing your feeling. It’s good to let your emotions out and with your girls you know no one will tell.
Make it a tradition to do like every last Friday or Saturday of the month.
Do fun things like talk, bake, play games, have a pillow fight, do your nails, dress up, take pictures. It’s a good thing to do to create memories! Remember just always have fun with what you do, and spending time with your friends gives you time away from boys, school, and the not fun stuff.
One-Of-A-Kind Dad
October 13, 2009
Today was my dad’s birthday, and I’ll be nice and not include what his age is. So we have a million traditions in our family, one being birthday dinner. Each year the weekend after your birthday you get to choose a restaurant of your choice (despite location and price) and we go to have dinner there. The birthday kid/parent gets to order what ever they want and we make a big deal out of it! I usually get over excited, make a huge announcement, and get most of the restaurant to sing to whom ever’s birthday it is. Silly I know, but to us it’s a big part of being part of our family.
This year we went to Chevy’s and they stole my thunder and made a big deal with singing and clapping. Not to be out done I made a short speech to the group about how cool my dad is (despite his wearing a man skirt/kilt). I was just messing around on the Internet tonight and was thinking about what I had said.
Do you ever let your dad know how much he means to you? Just because your a tween or teenager doesn’t mean you can’t still be daddy’s little girl. Dads need to know they are loved, that the are appreciated. So the mission I want to send all of you out to do is: go find your dad where ever he is,and tell him in your own way how much he means to you. Call him up, go hug him, and just tell him that he means the world to you. Because dad’s, just like the rest of us, need lovin’ too.
Dating Advice for Teens: Don’t Let Guys Change You
October 12, 2009
We have so many pressures to be perfect from everything around us. The two biggest ones? Media and boys. Why do girls dress inappropriately? To impress guys. They feel that if they don’t wear revealing clothing and act a certain way, then guys will never like them. Well I have news for you. If a guy only wants you because of what you look like, DITCH HIM!
I see it every day. Two people start going out, but they only like each other for looks, and not for who they are. That can never last. I’m not saying you should be looking for a husband right now, but that shouldn’t stop you from having a boyfriend who appreciates you as a human being. Ideally, a guy should like the fact that you DON’T dress or act in a “slutty” way, because that means he knows you’re not trying to get the attention of every other guy on the planet while you’re with him.
Guys don’t only effect how girls dress, though. This goes back to the blog about enforcing your boundaries (you should read that!). If he’s urging you to do something you’re not comfortable with, DON’T DO IT. Remember when you were little and you had to practice how to say “no” to strangers? Well the same thing applies here. Don’t do anything you’re not ready for. Don’t be afraid to say no!
I have other news for you too. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! I know you hear it from your parents all the time, but believe it or not, you ARE! I’m not just talking about how you look. You have to be truly confident inside and out that you are a beautiful and strong young woman who is ready to take on the world(even if you’re only ready to take on 5th hour). Other people, guys included, will see you glowing with confidence and admire you for that.
Think about some people at school. Who do you think more of? The girl who only worries that her hair and make up is perfect, with skin tight clothes and the designer bags, and always seems to be frowning? Or the girl who can walk into school with sweatpants and a tshirt on, hair thrown up in a ponytail and a smile on her face, ready for the day? Just think about that for a minute. Now, which one would you rather be?
When you’re done reading this, I want you to do me a favor. It will only take you a minute. Walk to you’re nearest mirror. Stare at yourself for a minute, and tell yourself that you are beautiful, confident, collected, and that you only deserve the best of the best. Because it’s all true!
Do this every once in awhile. I know it sounds weird, but it helps. I do it all the time when I’m getting down on myself!
So remember this:
- Be Confident!
- Be Yourself!
- Don’t settle for a guy who only likes what you look like!
- KNOW that you are BEAUTIIFUL and you deserve the best that life has to offer!
